A stunning coromandel style king sized panel headboard - 77" wide x 60.5" high x 2.5" deep -- with a detailed palace scene similar to those found in traditional Chinese decorative art, including on lacquered floor screens and wall panels. The palace court scene depicted is incised into the wood and the whole colored and lacquered; it depicts a high-ranking court personage on his chair of honor enjoying a dance performance while other functionaries orbit around him, including two figures who are fanning him with large palm fronds. The entire scene is enclosed within an intricate painted foliate border. The coloring of this headboard is predominately in the gold/bronze family on a tan/champagne ground with dark brown, grey green and reddish ochre details and highlights.
