This extraordinary, rare pair of 19th-century French Louis XV child-sized cabriolet salon chairs ("chaise enfant") offers an enchanting study in classical furniture craftsmanship. Sourced from a premier estate, these diminutive heirloom pieces are offered as a captivating, high-contrast decorative pair that perfectly balances finished textile artistry with raw, deconstructed form.
Design, Artistry & Restoration Potential:
The Upholstered Chair: Beautifully finished in a rich, jewel-toned green velvet seat paired with a delicate, traditional floral tapestry backrest. The textile transitions are elegantly accented by antique metal nailhead trim.
The Deconstructed Chair: Intentionally stripped down to its open, bare frame, this chair serves as a stunning sculptural artifact. It beautifully showcases the masterfully executed, hand-carved elmwood joinery, original wood pins, and authentic hand-tool marks that prove its 19th-century origin.
Styling & Placement:
This magnificent pair can be enjoyed exactly as they are to bring a chic, historic "atelier" aesthetic to a modern living space. They make an exceptional, conversation-starting addition to a formal dressing room, a luxury nursery, or styled on either side of a fireplace mantel. Alternatively, the bare frame remains entirely ready to be custom upholstered to match its twin or contrast with a modern fabric.
Condition Report:
Excellent antique structural condition. The frames are tight and sturdy. One chair is fully upholstered with light, character-rich wear to the vintage textiles consistent with age. The companion chair has been safely stabilized and cleaned, intentionally left down to the bare wooden frame to highlight its historic joinery and hand-tooling.

Upholstered Chair: … moreThis exceptional pair of 19th-century chairs is structurally sound, stable, well-balanced, and ready for display or custom styling. Upholstered Chair: Presenting in ready-to-use condition, featuring vintage textiles that exhibit light, character-rich wear consistent with age and light historical use. Deconstructed Chair: Cleanly stripped down to its bare elmwood frame and original structural webbing, serving as an exceptional canvas for upholstery or a standalone sculptural artifact. Historical Wear Details: Both frames exhibit a beautiful, time-earned patina with authentic signs of age. This includes expected historical wood darkening near the feet and typical, light surface oxidation on the original upholstery brads and tacks. The unfinished frame shows minor, localized cloudy white blushing in its old finish. These minor cosmetic nuances are entirely standard for authentic 19th-century workshop and project pieces. They add wonderful historical depth to the pair and will be naturally addressed or completely concealed during a standard reupholstery process if you choose to cover the frame. Sold as a pair. less
