Offered is a vintage Taverneau wood tray designed by Arthur Umanoff for Pantalcraft in the 1960s and made in Haiti. The shape is whimsically referred to as a "candy wrapper", and it is divided with horizontal partitions similar to a candy cane stripe. This piece is hand carved with Umanoff's signature sculptural ergonomic detail and surprise twists.
Taverneau wood is sometimes referred to as "Caribbean Walnut", and the Pantalcraft label has an added "alcohol proof" claim and instructions for use - original labels still attached. This piece has survived 60 yrs in lovely condition, with only a deep golden patina for signs of wear. While food safe for dry snacks and canapés, it would be lovely on a console or dresser as a catchall for jewelry or trinkets.
