In the 1780s-1790s, the Neoclassical style ushered in tapered legs, so this piece is earlier than that or commissioned in the late 1700s by someone not ready to embrace the changing style. Game table are so versatile because they can make great accent tables, but the top can flip onto the swinging leg to be used for an intimate meal or playing games as they were originally attended.
