When Gilded Age New York wanted a table set to a standard that required no explanation, they went to Tiffany's and they came home with Minton. England's most decorated porcelain house, supplier to the Royal Household, the only maker whose bone china was considered worthy of the Tiffany name. These three dinner plates are exactly that collaboration — bone china of the first order, made in England, retailed through Tiffany's New York, and dated to circa 1904.
The border is the thing. A wide band of raised gold in the gadroon tradition — the surface worked into a fine repeating texture that catches candlelight the way a piece of jewelry does, not the way a plate does. Inside it, a single gold fillet ring at the well. The ground is ivory white, the kind of white that makes gold look warmer and rooms look better. There is no pattern here in the decorative sense. The restraint is the point. This is the china of people who understood that a table set with pieces like these needed nothing else.
