Each chair displays an elegant shield-form back with hand-painted classical motifs including urns overflowing with flowers, scrolling foliate decoration, and birds rendered against a dramatic charcoal ground. The coordinated painted upholstery continues onto the seats, creating a rare and highly decorative presentation seldom found in such well-preserved condition.
The frames are finished in warm antiqued gold leaf tones with contrasting dark accents highlighting the carved details. Gracefully curved arms, tapered fluted legs, and refined proportions reflect the sophisticated neoclassical influences for which Thomas W. Morgan became known.
