Vintage 1973 Estée Lauder “Portrait” solid perfume compact. It is highly prized by collectors of vintage Estée Lauder vanity memorabilia. Circa 1973, part of the early wave of holiday release compacts that kicked off Estée Lauder’s decades-long tradition of collectible solid perfume cases. Victorian Revival / Hollywood Glamour styling, echoing romantic 18th-century European miniature portraiture paired with opulent enamel work.
Gold toned base metal and guilloché style enamel lid in cobalt and royal blue with bright gold detailing. The lid features a diamond trellis or quilted lattice pattern with gilt dot intersections and a central framed classical portrait vignette. The sides are finished with textured filigree referencing antique jewelry box construction.
Originally designed to hold solid perfume tablets rather than loose powder, typically associated with legacy Estée Lauder scents such as Youth Dew or Estée. Designed as a luxury pocket sized vanity object for evening use or dressing table display.
