An original 1835 hand-colored hummingbird engraving, newly presented in a dark frame with an archival olive mat. This is the antique source image reproduced in the modern Gallivani Birds 2 design — the same hummingbird composition now seen in oversized contemporary luxury decor, but here in its original 19th-century natural history form.
The plate is titled “Trochilus, Humming-Birds” and includes several named varieties, including the Sapphire & Emerald hummingbird, Azure-crowned hummingbird, Blue-fronted hummingbird, Temminck’s hummingbird, and Clemence’s hummingbird. It comes from William MacGillivray’s Edinburgh Journal of Natural History and of the Physical Sciences, Vol. I, published in Edinburgh in 1835 and connected to Cuvier’s Animal Kingdom.
Where the modern Gallivani Birds 2 version translates this image into large-scale designer wall art, this piece offers the original antique engraving: period paper, hand color, natural history context, and true 1835 surface. The jewel-toned birds, pale botanical background, and refined olive matting give it a polished, collected look for a study, library wall, powder room, hallway, or layered natural history gallery.
Framed size: 12 x 18 inches.
