An extraordinary Egyptian Revival throne chair featuring monumental winged sphinx arm supports, an Eye of Horus back panel, and richly carved architectural details throughout.
Crafted in dark stained hardwood with gold-accented decorative elements, this impressive chair blurs the line between furniture and sculpture. The dramatic winged sphinx figures, carved scroll arms, and commanding throne-like silhouette make it a remarkable focal point for an interior, gallery, library, office, theater room, or curated collection.
According to the previous owner, the chair was acquired from a Washington, DC-area art gallery or specialty furniture showroom and is believed to date from the 1960s–1970s. While no documentation accompanies the piece, its substantial scale, craftsmanship, and distinctive design suggest it was created as a high-end decorative statement piece rather than mass-produced furniture.
The chair is exceptionally heavy and appears to be constructed of solid hardwood or predominantly solid hardwood. The carved details remain crisp and visually striking, and the overall presentation is impressive from every angle.
Condition: Good vintage condition. Minor cosmetic wear, surface scuffs, finish loss, and hairline finish cracks are present in areas consistent with age, storage, and handling. The chair remains structurally solid and highly decorative. Most imperfections are cosmetic in nature and could be professionally touched up if desired. Please review photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
A rare and dramatic example of Egyptian Revival design that functions equally well as seating, a sculptural object, or a conversation piece.
