Artfully decorated silver clock by a Viennese master: Silver figure of a Roman foot soldier or squire in a short … Read more Artfully decorated silver clock by a Viennese master: Silver figure of a Roman foot soldier or squire in a short tunic with a leather apron, standing on a small, stepped round plinth and, like an Atlantean, supporting the oval clock case; mounted on a round, domed base resting on four volute feet with winged angel heads, featuring fine enamel painting - four medallions with antique-style mythological scenes against a black background with arabesque painting in gold, interspersed with applied, ivory-coloured painted putto mascarons; clock case painted on the reverse and inside with further antique-style scenes; front originally glazed; silver dial with coloured arabesque painting, painted Roman in black, case crowned with a seated putto with floral decoration. Chain-driven spindle movement, inspected and cleaned by a master watchmaker, in full working order, with the original winding key included.
