A striking mid-century brass and glass étagère featuring five substantial glass shelves suspended within a framework of turned brass uprights and stretcher bars. The architectural form is both airy and substantial, with the warm brass structure providing contrast to the clean lines of the thick glass shelving.
Particularly appealing is the naturally aged brass surface, which has developed a rich, mellow patina over time. It retains the character and depth that collectors often seek in vintage brass furnishings. Areas of old polish residue remain, further contributing to its authentic appearance and history.
The turned brass columns are capped with finial-like terminals at the top, while ribbed collar details at the stretcher joints lend additional visual interest. The transparent shelves allow light to pass through the piece, making it an excellent display cabinet for books, ceramics, sculpture, glass, or decorative objects without overwhelming a room.
Each glass shelf, 3/8 inches in depth, is heavy, weighing approximately 15 pounds, giving the piece a sense of quality and permanence.
The étagère was designed with a modular brass framework that can be partially disassembled for transport and shipping. The glass shelves lift out individually, while the brass supports separate into manageable sections, allowing the heavy piece to be moved more easily than if it were a fixed shelving unit.
