This unusual late 19th-century American decorative piece is commonly known as a “Chicago Carriage,” a form illustrated in an 1884 Marietta Chair Company catalog.
Featuring an elegant bentwood frame, slatted basket construction, hand-turned details, and metal spoked wheels integrated into a graceful rocker base, the piece possesses remarkable sculptural presence from every angle.
Retaining its original finish and authentic age-related patina, it serves today as a striking decorative accent, collector’s piece, display vessel, photography prop, teddy bear holder, blanket holder, or conversation piece.
The combination of curved bentwood elements, delicate wheel construction, and distinctive silhouette makes it an exceptional example of American Victorian craftsmanship.
Wear consistent with age and use. Original finish, surface wear, scratches, oxidation to metal elements, and age-related patina throughout.
