A dark cobalt blue on white earthenware transfer printed handled platter in the Fruits and Flowers pattern, Joseph Stubbs and … Read more A dark cobalt blue on white earthenware transfer printed handled platter in the Fruits and Flowers pattern, Joseph Stubbs and Kent Potteries, of Longport, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, circa 1828-1830 – the Late Georgian Era, George IV period.

Transfer printed in the underglaze tissue process with a pearlware glaze, surrounded by a wide, running border of stylized flowers and leaves.
The central motif features a lush arrangement of fruit – a mix of plump peaches, pomegranates, grapes, and leaves all set against a textured, stippled ground.

The rim is distinguished by scrolling cartouches filled with complementary floral motifs, separated by hanging or pendant-style flower clusters.
This example shows scrolled side handles glazed entirely in cobalt.

The color is a brilliant deep cobalt blue. This is a classic example of early 19th-century British dark blue transferware.
