Antique French Limoges porcelain fish service, factory-decorated by William Guérin & Co. of Limoges, France, ca. 1890s–1900. The set comprises twelve 9-inch plates and an oval sauce boat underplate, each hand-painted with a different aquatic scene — freshwater fish, lobsters and crayfish, shells, water lilies and blossoms among coral and seaweed. No two pieces are alike. Each has a finely embossed (stippled) white ground and a hand-gilded scalloped rim.
Marked with the green underglaze Guérin factory mark and the red overglaze “Wm. Guérin & Co., Limoges, France” decorator’s mark, confirming factory decoration.
A rare and decorative late-Victorian seafood-course service, beautifully painted and ready to display or use.
