The face of the lion has two chrysocolla cabochons for eyes, a stone known for its vibrant, almost electric, turquoise glow. A version of this pendant was worn by King Tutankhamen in his tomb as a protective talisman. Sekhmet is depicted as a woman with the head of a lioness, and is the Ancient Egyptian goddess of war, protection, divine justice, and healing. She is said to be born from the fire of the sun god Ra’s eye. The pendant is handmade, circa the 1970’s.

The pendant measures 3/4” x 13/16”, plus a 6 x 7 mm bail. It weighs 2.75 grams. It has enough of a hallmark on its ear to indicate that it is Egyptian. Acid tests as 18k gold. See less
