This is an actual antique solid brass plumb bob, a traditional tool used by surveyors and masons to determine a perfectly vertical line back in the day. It features a classic, heavy turnip-shaped body and a spool top with a horizontal hole designed to tie off a leveling cord. These solid-cast variants, (this one of brass) were commonly produced from the late 19th - mid 20th century. This makes a perfect architectural home/room accent for the industrial, steampunk or traditional styled interiors adding a bit of gleam and making a great conversation starter too!
