An exceptional 1855–1860 French Louis XVI-style marble and ormolu bronze clock set, consisting of one mantel clock and two matching cassolettes. This impressive 3-piece antique set combines original French craftsmanship, richly decorated marble, heavy gilded ormolu bronze mounts, and a beautifully detailed working 8-day movement.
The clock case is crafted from marble and lavishly decorated with ormolu bronze details. The top is crowned with a decorative coupe enriched with ormolu bronze guirlandes and ribbons. Above the coupe are two finely detailed birds in a romantic composition: one bird rests on the bench while the other stands with spread wings, creating a charming and poetic focal point.
On each side of the clock case is a beautifully modeled putto figure. One putto, a boy, is shown writing, while the other, a girl, is holding and looking at a globe. These sculptural details add storytelling, elegance, and classical symbolism to the piece.
The lower section of the clock is decorated with an ormolu bronze plaquette depicting playful putti. The left side shows two putti rowing, the center shows putti playing musical instruments, and the right side shows two putti playing together. These detailed scenes give the clock wonderful depth and decorative richness.
The enamel dial is beautifully decorated with hand-painted guirlandes and flowers. It features Arabic numerals and presents with refined antique character.
The movement is stamped by the Famous renowned French 19th century clockmaker Japy Frères et Cie and marked Médaille d’Honneur 1855. The clock has recently been checked and oiled by a professional clockmaker and is in working order. It has an 8-day movement and strikes on the half and whole hour. The clock comes complete with pendulum, winding key, and bell.
The two matching cassolettes are also made from marble and richly decorated with ormolu bronze guirlandes. Each lid is finished with an ormolu bronze finial in the form of a flame. The lower sections of the cassolettes repeat the same decorative bronze plaquette motif found on the clock, creating a beautifully coordinated 3-piece set.
