A handsome example of Victorian-period English furniture, this mahogany drop-leaf Pembroke table combines graceful form with everyday practicality. The richly grained mahogany top opens from a compact 22½" to a generous 44½" with both leaves raised, making it equally suited as a console, breakfast table, or intimate dining table for two.
The apron features one functional dovetailed drawer with original brass ring pulls — a nice period detail — balanced by a false drawer on the opposite side for visual symmetry. Secondary woods of birch or elm are visible in the drawer construction, consistent with quality English cabinet making of the era. Four elegantly turned legs complete the piece, lending it the quiet confidence typical of mid-Victorian design.
Condition: Very good for its age. The top shows light wear and use marks consistent with 150+ years of life — character, not damage. Minor animal chew marks are present at the bases of the legs, barely noticeable and easily overlooked.
