Antique elegance.
This Chinese export porcelain bowl, circa 1800 was made for the Islamic market.
The rim is edged in gold.
There is a band of overglaze blue and gold flowers edged with gold on the interior and exterior borders of the bowl as well as at the base of the bowl.
The center of the interior is decorated with a similar circular band.
The body is decorated with swirling bands of the same design.
The base is unmarked.
The absence of figural decoration and the restrained floral elements are typical of pieces produced for Mughal India or the Middle East. Stylistically, this Safavid court-style design would indicate that it was intended for the Persian market.
