A striking hand‑painted black and gold chinoiserie metal vessel measuring 10” x 10” x 12.75” tall, this piece brings sculptural presence and high‑contrast glamour to any room. Each of the four sides features an ornate gold floral motif, beautifully executed and consistent with mid‑century decorative metalwork imported from Asia.
Resting on four solid brass paw feet, the piece has the elevated stance and refined silhouette associated with upscale decorator accessories. Its square, flared form makes it highly versatile: use it as a wastebasket, a cachepot for a potted plant, or a jardiniere for branches or greenery. The interior is clean and the exterior displays a rich, glossy black ground that sets off the gold detailing.
A sticker on the underside indicates it was made in China. Based on construction, paint style, and hardware, it was likely produced between the 1970s and early 1990s, during the period when chinoiserie‑inspired metal accessories were widely exported for the American decorator market.
