A rare and highly distinctive “Basculante” rocking lounge chair in fiberglass structure and velvet upholstery. designed by Augusto Betti during the 1970s embodying the futuristic and experimental spirit of Italian radical design. Defined by its sculptural low-profile silhouette and enveloping proportions, the chair combines bold geometry with exceptional comfort. The design features a glossy white molded fiberglass shell resting on integrated curved supports that allow for a gentle rocking motion. Deeply padded cushions upholstered in black ribbed corduroy create a striking visual contrast against the smooth lacquered structure while emphasizing the chair’s soft, cocoon-like form. The continuous rounded lines and space-age aesthetic reflect the innovative furniture language that emerged in Italy during the 1970s, where functionality merged with sculptural expression. The generous proportions and low seating position offer a particularly relaxed lounging experience, while the architectural fiberglass frame gives the piece a strong visual presence from every angle. An excellent example of collectible Italian modernist seating, equally suited for contemporary interiors and important vintage design collections. Very good vintage condition, consistent with wear and use. Fiberglass shell shows minor surface marks and very small abrasions. Upholstery remains in very good condition with light signs of use and minor compression to the padding. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
