The top face features a central cartouche flanked by two oval link motifs, with fine engraved bead detailing along the rails. A double buckle design at the center — a motif popular in Victorian jewelry symbolizing unity, fidelity, and an unbreakable bond. Fitted with an original gold safety chain. Oval inner circumference 6.5 inches, fits wrist 6.25–7 inches. Width 15.7mm. Weight 23.3 grams.
A piece of genuine historical character. The 1870s–1880s represented the height of the Aesthetic Movement in jewelry, when designers moved away from heavy Revivalist forms toward lighter, more refined motifs drawn from nature and classical antiquity. The buckle motif specifically carried strong sentimental meaning in the Victorian era — it appeared frequently in mourning jewelry, betrothal gifts, and friendship pieces, representing a bond that cannot be undone. Two oval hallmarks are present on the clasp along with a partially legible maker's mark, consistent with American goldsmithing practices of the period.
