An exceptional, highly collectible late 19th-century American antique Etruscan Majolica "Begonia Leaf" platter or serving dish. Produced by the renowned firm Griffen, Smith & Hill (Phoenixville, PA, active 1879–1890), this large, vibrant piece features an intricately molded, lifelike begonia leaf design.
The rich green and deep rose-pink glazed leaf body is accented by a creamy-yellow band and an integrated branch-form handle with delicate buds. On the reverse, the platter features an excellent, crisp impressed circular maker's mark reading "Etruscan Majolica" with the GSH monogram. A premier addition to an antique majolica collection or an elegant, historic accent for a traditional interior.
