An American Federal style banjo clock, crafted from mahogany circa 1860. The clock features the classic form with a circular head, a tapered throat, and a rectangular pendulum box. It is surmounted by a cast gilt metal finial depicting an eagle with spread wings perched atop a sphere. The clock face is painted with black Roman numerals and is marked "MANUFACTURED IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" along the bottom edge. The throat and pendulum box are adorned with black and gold eglomise, or reverse-painted glass, panels. This handsome antique wall clock is unsigned but represents a characteristic example of mid-19th century American clockmaking.
