An exquisite mid-19th-century French Louis XVI-style bronze lyre clock, dating from approximately 1840–1860. Designed in the elegant form of a lyre, the classical Ancient Greek musical instrument, this antique clock is a refined decorative timepiece with exceptional sculptural presence.
The clock is crafted entirely from bronze and rests on its original red-brown marble base, adding weight, stability, and richness to the overall design. The bronze retains its original aged patina, giving the piece depth, character, and an authentic antique appearance.
The lyre form is beautifully decorated with Louis XVI-inspired ornamentation, including female masks, leafy branches, floral details, and classical motifs. These refined decorative elements give the clock a sense of harmony, balance, and historic French elegance.
The bronze dial features Roman numerals set within decorative cartouches, with elegant bronze hands and a protective glass door. The clock has an 8-day balans movement and strikes on the half and full hours. It has recently been checked and serviced by a professional clockmaker and is in working order. The clock comes complete with its winding key and bell.
This piece would make a beautiful focal point on a mantel, console, desk, library shelf, sideboard, or within a curated antique clock collection.
