This is a Absolutely Beautiful - Very Fine Quality Antique Desk Top Stationary - Letter Box. It Comes from the Classic Aesthetic Victorian Period - Circa Mid to Late 19th Century - Approx 1860s - 1870s. There is a Small Hand Engraved Brass Plaque on the Interior Center - Back Top Rim that Identifies the Maker as I. J. MECHI - Regent Street ( London ). It is Completely Hand Made. The Exterior is done in Some Sort of Very Unusual Exotic Burl Wood Veneer. It has an Assortment of Applied Completely Hand Made Solid Bronze Mounts - Decorations. Note also that the Bronze Mounts have Faded with Age Gilt Surfaces. It has a Fitted I- Divided - Sectioned Interior to Hold Paper - Envelopes - Letters Etc. Also note that The Interior - Underside of the Dome Top has Tufted Satin Type Cloth - Textile Material. It Still Retains its Original Varnish with a Lovely Patina. Overall Condition for its age is Very Good and it Displays Beautifully. The Original Locking Mechanism is Intact but it Comes With No Key. The Applied Bronze Decorations are Missing 2 of the Tack Head Fasteners - Domes ( 1 at Front Left Base Area and 1 at Back Right Top Area ). Also the Fitted Interior ( Letter Slots ) Show Some Age and Use Wear and it is Missing 1 of the Divider Strips 3rd Row From the Front.
