Vintage wooden sculpture is a Qulin (or Kylin), a mythical Chinese creature often described as a dragon-horse. It features the head of a dragon and the body of a horse. Mythological origin in Chinese culture, the Qulin is a benevolent being that symbolizes prosperity, good fortune, and protection. The design is consistent with Tang Dynasty style sculptures.I Characterized by the head of a dragon and the body, legs, and tail of a horse. Comes apart in six pieces. four pegged legs, one pegged head and the body. May originate from Asian or Indonesian regions in the early to mid 20th century. It shares characteristics with another mythical Asian creature, Longma.
A legendary 'dragon-horse' centerpiece sometimes used in temple displays.
