They are highly artistic in many forms and agricultural. Skilled ironworkers create figures that help teach. They are buried and sometimes beer is poured on them to oxidize them. The female antelope is depicted simply as carrying a young on its back. This vertical style is typically found in the eastern parts of Mali (Segou region). It's a spiritual symbol. This was brought back in the 1970s. Although the tag states it's a chiwana, it isn't, as a chiwana is a hand carved headdress used in ceremonies, often to teach agriculture and is depicted as half man half antelope, or other spiritual teaching symbols.
