This is a hand painted decorative plate made in Granada, Spain. The center of the plates is a pomegranate design "granada" means pomegranate in Spanish. It is painted in vibrant lapis blue and emerald green in the traditional designs and then beautifully glazed. There are holes in the back with a small metal hardware for hanging. This plate is in very good vintage condition.

Ceramic from Granada Spain is referred to as Ceramica de Fajalauza. It gets its name from one of the six doors on the large wall surrounding the crafts quarters , the “albayzín”, of the city. Fajalauza ceramic has it's origin in the 16th century in Granada during the Mozarabe period and the fantastic tradition is STILL in existence today!
