Andre Delatte Nancy Acid-Etched Cameo Glass Vase, France
Offered for sale is a diminutive signed Andre Delatte Nancy French blown art glass vase with acid-etched tree and forest cameo glass patterns. The vase is signed as depicted.
André Delatte was born in Châtenois (Vosges, France) (1887-1953). where he became a successful banker. Among his customers were the Muller Brothers. Delatte visited the Mullers' studios and discovered his passion for art glass, especially in its chemical aspect. He left banking and studied chemistry.
After his diplomas, in 1919, he started a studio in Nancy (rue du Faubourg des 3 Maisons), where he decorated glass pieces made by the Muller Freres. Two years later, he built his first furnace in Jarville, near Nancy, where approximately thirty people worked for him.
Many artisan workers came from Daum's glassworks. The studio moved to Nancy (16 rue de Metz). The company was called Verreries de l'Est. Soon, his works were compared with the most famous glassworks in Nancy. By 1926, about 60 people worked for the glassworks, and his headquarters were located at Quai Ligier in Nancy. But the crisis across Europe caused the Delatte glassworks to close in 1933. In 1937, André Delatte moved to Cavaillon in the South of France.
He passed in 1953 in Toulouse where he is buried near his family.
