A beautifully proportioned antique American drop-leaf work table, dating to approximately 1840–1860. The top is solid flame mahogany with a dramatic, swirling figure that catches the light beautifully — a hallmark of premium American furniture making of the period, and rarer than the veneered examples commonly seen. A wonderful statement piece for a study, bedroom, entryway, or living room. Works beautifully in traditional, eclectic, or maximalist interiors.
Two hinged drop leaves fold down neatly, making this table as practical today as it was in the 19th century. Two drawers with original turned wooden knobs and brass keyhole escutcheons offer charming storage. The drawer construction reveals hand-cut dovetail joinery and secondary wood (oak) for the drawer boxes, consistent with quality American period construction.Four elegantly rope-twist turned legs culminate in classic ball feet, a decorative detail that was highly fashionable among American furniture makers of the 1840s–1860s. The turning is crisp and well-preserved. Unmarked.
