A finely crafted French Louis XV style writing table or petite bureau plat in tulipwood and kingwood marquetry and parquetry, dating to the early 20th century.
Compact in scale and highly versatile, this elegant table works beautifully as a writing table, end table, bedside table, or small laptop desk. The shaped apron and drawer front are decorated with scrolling floral marquetry set against diagonal parquetry grounds, with subtly shaded flowers that add depth and dimension to the design.
The veneers throughout are particularly attractive, including mirrored grain patterns running along the front and rear faces of the legs — a refined cabinetmaking detail rarely seen on simpler revival pieces. The slender tapered legs are softly faceted and gently slanted, ending in delicate brass sabots that give the table a light, graceful presence.
The top retains its original black leather writing surface with gilt-tooled border, framed by a shaped crossbanded surround. A single drawer opens to a divided interior fitted for writing accessories or correspondence. The original brass escutcheon remains in place; key not present.
Recently restored, the table presents beautifully, with rich color, vibrant veneers, and crisp marquetry detail throughout. The leather writing surface retains light age-related wear, including a visible ring mark consistent with use over time.
