Antique two piece Japanese black lacquer desk and chair set featuring Mount Fuji. This is an exceptional Meiji period carved writing desk with a matching side chair, made in the early 1900's. The desk comes in two sections. The upper features a carving of Mt. Fuji surrounded by a dragon with it's body and tail sweeping downward. There are multiple letter slots with two small doors and a single drawer all with different dragon carvings. The desk top with a Greek key motif carved in the perimeter, measures 26" x 41" and 31.5" high. There is a single elongated knee hole drawer flanked by 2 smaller drawers, all with dragon carvings. The chair back is carved in a similar fashion with the dragon coiled around the mountain. The seat is 18" high and the back is 41.5" high.
