Antique English burl walnut slant front desk, c.1880
A handsome looking desk, with a warm color and patina, in figurative and book matched burl walnut throughout with cross banded front and drawers. The slant front, which has a working lock and key, opens out to reveal in interior with a tooled and gilded leather writing surface. There are nine small drawers as well as eight open cubbies for extra storage. In the middle is a small lockable compartment with working key. When the slant front is opened out, it extends to 13.5” from the desk to give plenty of room for knee space. Below are two short and three graduating long drawers with brass hardware. All drawers open and close smoothly. The whole stands on bracket feet. In good antique condition with some scuffs, age and use wear. Recently waxed and polished.
