English Country style—where a collected, layered mix of furniture and objects is shaped by use, comfort, and time.
A richly colored set of three Copeland Spode’s “Tower” blue transferware 10.25" dinner plates, made in England and decorated in the enduring pastoral pattern first introduced in the 19th century. The romantic landscape scene—with bridge, tower, river, and flowering border—has long been associated with traditional English table settings and country house interiors.
These examples are especially appealing for their deep cobalt transfer printing, which reads beautifully in person and gives the plates a stronger visual presence than many later examples. The softly molded scalloped edge adds another layer of texture that works particularly well in open shelving, plate walls, Welsh cupboards, or layered tabletop styling.
Equally at home in traditional English interiors, collected cottage kitchens, or more eclectic spaces that benefit from a note of historic pattern and color. Sold as a set of three. Multiple sets available separately. Dates early 20th century, circa 1910–1925/1930.
JUNE'S THOUGHTS
I almost always gravitate toward blue and white when I’m styling a room or building a collection. It’s reliable in the best possible way—it mixes easily, softens heavier furniture, and somehow always makes a space feel more layered and lived-in. What I especially respond to with these plates is the richness of the blue. Some transferware can feel flat visually, but these have real depth and saturation that gives them a stronger presence on a shelf or table. They’re the kind of pieces that quietly pull a room together.
