This Really is a Great Looking, Quite Rare & Unusual Authentic Antique Dry Measure that Would Have Been Used in … Read more This Really is a Great Looking, Quite Rare & Unusual Authentic Antique Dry Measure that Would Have Been Used in a Gristmill or Grainery. American in Origin - Circa Mid 19th Century. LARGE SIZE - Measures Overall Approx 10 inches Tall x 15 inches Long x 12 3/8 inches Wide. The Front is Beautifully Hand Engraved - Reads 1/2 Bushel Indicating the Accurate Measure of its Intended Contents. These Types of Dry Measures ( Typically Made Out of Wood ) were Used to Measure Grains, Rice, Beans, Seeds, Fruits, Flour, Etc.

The Front - Base Area is Also Hand Engraved - Reads "Henry Troemer MAKER Philadelphia". Henry Troemner (1809–1873) was a Very Well Documented German immigrant who established a renowned precision scale manufacturing company in Philadelphia in 1844. Known for crafting high-quality balances, especially during the Gold Rush, his scales were used by the U.S. Treasury, the U.S. Mint, and many industrial laboratories.

Made Out of Solid Brass - This is a Very Fine Quality - Completely & Substantially Hand Made Piece Weighing Over 14 1/2 Pounds!. It has Bolstered Top and Bottom Rims with 2 Side Handles that are Solid Cast Brass attached with Brass Screws. Construction Indicates that it Would have been Used for Commercial or Industrial Use. The Complicated Multiple Piece Construction as well as the Fine Attention to Detail in its Making are Obviously the Work of a Master Metal Worker. NOTE! that it has a Concave - Convex Bottom Panel. It is in Very Nice All Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully!. Exterior Brass is Somewhat Polished. The Interior is Quite Tarnished with Some Verdigris on the Bottom. No Damage - No Repairs.
