A fabulous and grand French gold leaf mirror, hand-carved circa 1860, during the height of the reign of Napoleon III. The period, sometimes referred to as the “Second Empire”, incorporated elements of previous French styles, such as the flower swags that overlap the upper portion of the glass, which were often used during Louis XV and XVI. The same can be said of the large, asymmetrical leaves in each corner of the mirror, which were seen with period Regence furniture.
