A stunning example of Pacific Northwest studio woodturning by artist D. Carlson, signed and dated March 12, 1994 on the foot with wood species notation "ash" — a complete provenance signature.
Constructed using advanced segmented woodturning technique — built from dozens of individually cut and fitted ash wood pieces assembled before turning, resulting in the dramatic geometric pattern visible throughout the vessel walls. The rim features hand-applied chatter texture work, a labor-intensive decorative technique that creates the striking crosshatch pattern. The vessel showcases a beautiful natural transition from deep reddish-brown ash heartwood to pale cream sapwood at the base.
At 32 years old this is a fully vintage signed studio art piece — not a decorative object but a documented work of craft art from an established gallery-represented artist.
This is a deeply personal work — the foot is inscribed with the names Sam and Jay alongside the artist's signature and the wood species — making this not a standard gallery production piece but a singular artistic statement.
Perfect for: organic modern interiors, wabi-sabi styling, studio craft art collections, Pacific Northwest art collections.
