British presentation trophy cup engraved 'Officers 17 Balloon Centre.' Balloon centres were units of the British military responsible for operating observation balloons used during World War I for reconnaissance and artillery spotting. These tethered balloons allowed observers to watch enemy movement from above the battlefield, making them an essential part of aerial warfare. It bears a presentation inscription from F.E. Ollivens and retains the warm patina and oxidation developed over time.
