Description: The bowl features a black spiral design - shadow effect in a mahogany ground created by combination of black brown and copper tones. The bowl shape is characteristic of a spherical cap, with the edges and the bottom forming a seamless curve. On the bottom, the artist's slip signature is marked, initials "MK" with a spiral design surround.

About the artist: Mike Kurz has held many different jobs in his life, including stints as a ceramicist, a teacher, a carpenter and a small business owner.
Specific to Kurz creation of ceramics, he grew up in Chicago, then went on to study ceramics and earn an undergraduate degree from the University of Puget Sound in 1991 and an M.F.A. from the University of Montana in 1998. He helped found The Clay Studio in Missoula, where he taught for about eight years.
