This Murano glass bowl by Barovier & Toso, produced in Italy around the 1960s, is a striking example of the cordonato d’oro technique, combining rich colour with intricate internal detailing. Formed in an elegant oval shape, the body is defined by gently undulating sides and a softly fluted rim, creating a sense of movement across the surface. Within the glass, threads of gold leaf are embedded and manipulated into radiating, rope-like patterns, catching and reflecting light with remarkable intensity. These luminous strands sit above a deep ruby red ground, producing a layered effect that shifts in tone depending on the angle of view. The bowl is raised on a clear glass pedestal foot, which subtly lifts the form and enhances the visual lightness of the piece despite its substantial presence. This interplay between transparency, colour, and metallic inclusion is characteristic of Barovier & Toso’s mid-century production, where technical innovation meets refined decorative expression. Well suited as a centrepiece, the scale and form allow it to function as both a practical vessel and a sculptural focal point.
