The shaped scalloped crest rail and overall form are consistent with the refined craftsmanship of the Victorian era, a period when cane furniture reached the height of its popularity in Europe and beyond for its structural elegance and breathability. The cane panels throughout are intact and the frame is solid and sturdy.

The frame has been refinished at some point in its history, most likely during its active years as a working Hollywood production piece, with the ebonized finish deliberately maintained to serve the chair's on-screen life.
