Such tiles are part of the ancient heritage of Middle Eastern art....a large area which includes Iran, Iraq
These tiles were typically molded from stonepaste and decorated with polychrome underglaze painting. Used to decorate a building, inside and out, they are known for their molded relief with crackle finish.

This tile measures 9" x 12" x 3/4"; it has minor wear to the left hand upper corner, and
appears to have been (expertly) mended from a crack at right bottom. The crack is visible from the front (see last photo, but does not detract as it is embedded in the colors and crackle finish

The bird is spectacular.
