These antique porcelain dinner plates in the Davenport Green Multicolor pattern by Crown Staffordshire were crafted in England in the 19th century. The pattern features a central motif of a bird perched on a branch surrounded by flowers, with a floral border. This is a discontinued pattern of fine china. The current owner well understands how rare it is to find dinner plates in this collection and has tried for many years, with no success, to locate additional pieces. Now, someone else's collection will benefit.
Please note that, while this collection is antique Staffordshire, some resources state that it is Wedgwood. This confusion must derive from the fact that Wedgwood, in 1968, purchased several well known Staffordshire (county in England) based ceramics companies including several key Crown Staffordshire divisions

Davenport Green Multicolor dinner plates are high-quality 19th-century English Staffordshire earthenware or porcelain, produced in Longport by John Davenport (operating 1794–1887). These, often featuring sage green rims, intricate gilt scrollwork, and hand-painted floral sprays (including pink, blue, and yellow), were popular during the 1830s–1850s.
History and Characteristics
Manufacturer: Founded by John Davenport in 1785 (officially 1794) in Longport, Staffordshire, the firm was known for producing high-quality porcelain, ironstone, and glass.
The "Green" Style: Many Davenport pieces from the 1830s–1850s era feature a distinct sage green ground or rim, often paired with elaborate gold gilt scrollwork, florettes, and hand-painted floral motifs.
Multi-Color Detail: These plates frequently incorporate "multi-color" elements, including hand-painted floral sprays in pink, yellow, blue, and purple, along with peach or orange accents.
Markings: Look for impressed marks, including "DAVENPORT" with an anchor, or printed marks reading "Davenport Longport Staffordshire".
Production Era: While Davenport operated for nearly a century (1794–1887), the ornate green and gilt porcelain plates are highly indicative of early-to-mid Victorian tastes.
