Both the front and the back depict a woman in a long tunic (such as they wore in Ancient Greece) sitting in a chair at a table, resting her head in one hand while using the other to tend to her work,. Near her is an oil lamp in the form of a bird as if perched on a stand, the font hanging from its beak. Ornate columns flank this scene above which is an impressed dome. Really quite a gorgeous letter holder, the design spares no expense in its fine attention to detail as even the base where the letters are meant to rest is highly decorated.

This letter holder would certainly look spectacular in one's home office or, given how few letters any of us receive these days, this could make for a very upscale cocktail or dinner napkin holder too!

Very nice antique/near antique condition. No dents, breaks, cracks or repairs. All parts are still solidly attached to the base. Normal wear sign due to age on the finish- patina, some tarnish, minor scratches due to age on the finish. See less
