This Studio … Read more This wonderful handmade stoneware bowl feels very architectural in structure, yet loose and whimsical in it's surface design.
This Studio Art Pottery Bowl was created by Gerry Williams, a potter with skillful hands. The exterior pattern is loose and textural and shows Gerry's experimental and playful nature. The circle and line marks remind me of Japanese calligraphy. The colors are earthy, rich, and pleasing to look at. The orange circles and lines repeating around the exterior surface are all slightly different and are applied with quick brush strokes. The interior glaze of robin's egg blue gives the bowl a soft and relaxed aura. It would look wonderful displayed in a group with other art pottery, or just by itself. This bowl is in perfect condition.

Gerry Williams ( 1926-2014 ) was an American potter who set up his studio in Southern New Hampshire in 1949. In 1972, Gerry and his wife co-founded the Studio Potter Magazine, an International Journal that became one of the most influential ceramic publications in the United States. It was the pulse of everything ceramics, and allowed Gerry to interact with the most innovative and cutting edge ceramicists working in the U.S., and abroad.

Gerry's work is presently in several museums including the American Museum of Ceramic Art, The Smithsonian museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. See less
