An Exceptional Quality Pair Of Early 19th Century, Regency Period, Mahogany Carver Armchairs, Of Good Bold Size, Having Well Figured Top Rails with Exceptional Carved Decoration, The Downswept Scrolling Arms Over Upholstered Drop In Seats, Raised On Elegant Bold Sabre Legs.
There are a few different theories as to where the term carver chair originates, but we rather like the simple one of a carver chair always being at the head and foot of the table and therefore occupied by the carver of the meat. Whichever way you look at it carver chairs are normally bolder, slightly larger and generally just more impressive than a normal dining chair.
Of course these days carver chairs can be used be used in many places around the home, as desk chairs, bedroom chairs or even spare hall chairs, as opposed to just being used around the dining table.
This pair of regency carver chairs are of exceptional quality, constructed from rich, well figured, dense mahogany timbers. They are of a good bold size and boast importance as well as elegance. They also have some exceptional carved decoration and very elegant sabre legs.
As fit for purpose as the day which they were made this pair of regency desk chairs are solid and functional. They have clearly been well loved and well looked after. The fabric upholstery is in good condition and clearly relatively recently replaced.
As with all items we offer for sale this pair of armchairs have been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled, specialist trained, antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish before being offered for sale to ensure that they are in excellent condition and ready for immediate placement within the home.
