The case is of outstanding craftsmanship designed to showcase both the artistry of the cabinet maker and the sophistication of the movement within.
The beautifully detailed dial features a silvered chapter ring with gilt engraved centre, subsidiary seconds dial and chime selection, surmounted by a rolling moonphase in the arch. The movement is of particularly high quality striking and chiming on a full set of nine tubular bells offering both Westminster and Whittington chimes. The sound produced is deep and resonant far richer than standard bell striking clocks.
Fitted with a mercury pendulum the clock was designed for greater accuracy, compensating for temperature changes and reflecting the technical advancements of the late 19th century. The pierced trunk door reveals the full arrangement of tubes and pendulum enhanced by decorative fretted panels and rich colouring behind.
Clocks of this calibre were produced as statement pieces often referred to as exhibition clocks, intended to demonstrate the highest standards of horology and cabinet making. The combination of elaborate carving, multiple chime options and advanced movement places this example firmly at the top end of production.

Recently serviced and in full working order. The movement is running well and chiming correctly. The case retains a rich colour and patina with light age related wear.
