Prehistoric Fossilized Trilobite Specimen from Morocco. Trilobites were an early arthropod at the beginning of the Paleozoic era in the Cambrian period. This specimen is an extinct marine arthropod recognizable by its segmented body and three-lobed structure (rounded head, articulated thorax segments, and tail plate). This appears to be a complete or near-complete trilobite preserved in matrix. The specimen displays a contrast between warm rust-orange fossilization and the cool gray limestone matrix. Trilobites were marine arthropods that thrived in ancient oceans for nearly 300 million years making them the most successful early life forms in the fossil record. They are considered ancestors to modern crabs, insects, and spiders. Total weight is 6lbs.
This fossilized specimen can be used in modern home decor as both a scientific artifact and sculptural object. It is ideal to display on a table or console as a conversation piece, styled in bookshelves or cabinets, or incorporated in organic modern, wabi-sabi, or natural history-inspired interiors.
