This Really is an Great Looking Antique American Stoneware Jug. Circa Approx 1850. These types of Jugs were typically used for Liquids - Spring Water - Ciders - Hard Cider and Other Spirits. It has a Classic Sand Color Salt Glaze Exterior with a Beautiful & Artistically Hand Decorated Light Navy Blue Stylized Tulip Flower Design on the Front. The Decoration also includes the Number 2 Denoting its 2 Gallon Liquid Storage Capacity. It is Embossed - Signed by the Well Documented Upstate Erie Canal Region New York Maker "LYONS". Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. It is in Excellent All Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. No Damage & No Repairs. NOTE That it Comes With a Very Old Cork Stopper. It has a Few Kiln Glaze Surface Imperfections - Rust Color Spot Glaze Imperfections Around the Base - Outer Perimeter that Would Have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. These Types of Utilitarian Stoneware Items Were Fired in Large Kilns in Batches with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and These Types of Kiln Acquired Blemishes are Quite Common.
